A young man from Donegal has been sentenced to two and a half years in prison, with the final eighteen months suspended for one year, following his conviction for oral rape. Jason McLaughlin of Cashel, Gleneely pleaded guilty to the offence, which occurred in January 2022 when he was sixteen years old. The victim was fourteen at the time. Ms Justice Mary Ellen Ring, sitting at the Central Criminal Court, heard that the defendant approached the girl after they met behind a filling station. He has been ordered to pay €10,000 compensation to the injured party in January 2026 and will remain under Probation Service supervision for one year following his release. During sentencing, the judge expressed concern that early access to pornography featured as a recurring pattern in cases involving young male offenders.
