Regency accused claims dad was driving his jeep on day of attack

At the Special Criminal Court, the defence for Jason Bonney, a man accused of participating in the murder of Kinahan Cartel member David Byrne at the Regency Hotel in February 2016, has contended that his father was driving the black BMW X5 jeep alleged to have been used in the attack. During cross-examination, a garda witness acknowledged that CCTV footage did not show Mr Bonney operating the vehicle south of Newbrook Avenue, northwest of the hotel. The defence indicated this would form part of Mr Bonney's case. The trial also heard evidence from a garda intelligence analyst detailing movements of vehicles and individuals on the day of the murder, including phone data and CCTV observations. Mr Bonney, aged 52 of Drumnigh Wood, Portmarnock, Dublin, has pleaded not guilty to participating in or contributing to Mr Byrne's murder by providing access to motor vehicles.
